The team will discuss your child's treatment with you in clear language and involve your child in decisions about their care. Please ask them if there is anything you need to know, don't understand or need help with. Our staff are here to help you. Our staff Consultants have overall responsibility for your child's medical treatmentSenior house officers (SHO) and specialist registrars (SpR) are doctors undergoing training in a certain specialtySurgeons often wear scrubs. This is because they work in theatres and surgical areasMatrons are senior staff who provide support and advice to a number of wards and departments. They wear purple uniforms.Ward sisters/charge nurses manage a ward or department and are the most senior members of staff in that clinical area. They wear dark blue uniformsClinical nurse specialists (CNS) are expert nurses. They are specially trained in diagnosing and treating illnesses. They wear dark grey uniformsSome nurses wear scrubs. This is because they work in theatres and surgical areasStaff nurses are qualified nurses who provide patient care on wards and in outpatient departments. They wear light blue uniforms.Nursing assistants are not registered nurses, however are very much a part of the nursing team. They perform a wide range of tasks and work under the supervision of a qualified nurse. Nursing assistants wear a light grey uniformPharmacists work across the hospital to make sure medicines are prescribed and administered safely and effectivelyPlay specialists provide your child with support and help them understand what is happening to themRadiographers carry out scans and x-raysTherapists include include physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapistsPatient service assistants help nurses by doing things like making beds and serving mealsHousekeepers help keep the hospital cleanVolunteers provide a wide range of extra services, complementing the work of our staffPorters take your child from place to place if you need helpSecurity officers help keep Evelina London safeWard clerks make sure our wards and departments run smoothlyReceptionists greet you when you arrive Students As this is a teaching hospital, students supervised by qualified staff might be involved in your child's care. It's valuable training for students. It does not affect the quality of your treatment in any way, but please tell us if you don't want them to be present or involved. We'll always respect your wishes. If you have any questions, ask a member of your child's ward team and they will help.
