If your child is referred to the @home team a nurse will come and visit you on the ward before you go home. If this is not possible we will contact you by phone.

As the team will be visiting you at home we may need to call you to ask for directions.

What happens at a home visit?

We will ask if you feel your child is getting better and if you have any concerns. We may do some observations like taking your child's temperature, pulse, blood pressure and checking respirations or number of breaths per minute.

We can give advice on how to manage your child’s illness, make sure they are drinking enough and support with medications like inhalers.

We will also give intravenous antibiotics if they have been prescribed by the doctor. This means giving them directly into the blood stream via a vein.

You will be given contact details for the team so you can contact them with any questions or concerns.

When will they visit?

A nurse will be in touch to arrange a time for a visit. The team are available seven days a week from 8am-10pm.

How many visits will there be?

We will only visit for up to three days and will then refer to our community team if we feel your child needs care for longer.

What happens afterwards?

We will let your child's GP know we have been visiting and pass on information about the care your child has received.

If you have been referred to the community team because we feel your child needs care for longer then they will be in touch.
