Children's Commissioner visits patients in hospital Last updated: Sunday, 24 December 2023 Dame de Souza with staff at Evelina London The Children's Commissioner for England, Dame Rachel de Souza, visited Evelina London on Christmas Eve to thank NHS staff working over Christmas and to give presents to children in hospital. James O'Brien, Evelina London's Director of Operations and Improvement, and paediatric nurse practitioner, Anna Webb, showed Dame de Souza around Savannah surgery and Beach dialysis wards. James O'Brien said: "I'd like to thank Dame de Souza for visiting today." I hope we gave her a glimpse of what we do at Evelina London to make sure children and young people in hospital over Christmas can enjoy the festivities while still receiving the crucial care that they need. Christmas is a special time, and we want it to be special even if children have to be in hospital. Dame de Souza said: "I am glad I was able to spend some time with the staff and patients at Evelina London Children's Hospital today." It was heart-warming to see how the team at Evelina London are determined to create special moments for the children despite them having to spend Christmas in hospital.
