Evelina London has received extremely positive feedback from the Care Quality Commission's (CQC) Children and Young People's Survey.

251 patients aged 0 to 15 who were admitted to Evelina London Children's Hospital or Royal Brompton Hospital between March and May 2024 and their parents and carers had their say on their hospital experiences. The results have been recently published by the CQC, and Evelina London has been ranked as 'better' or 'much better' than other trusts in England in a number of key areas.

Parents and carers rated Evelina London as 'much better' for how well our teams supported children and young people to manage their pain while in hospital.

Children and young people and their parents and carers rated us as 'better' for:

  • keeping children informed while in waiting areas
  • communicating clearly with patients and families, including listening and using age-appropriate language
  • looking after our patients well, including creating a supportive environment through play and activities, and involving children and young people in decisions about their care and treatment
  • explaining operations and procedures clearly, both before and after they happen
  • communicating effectively with children, young people and their families about what to expect when they leave hospital and the next steps for their care
  • treating children, young people and their families with kindness, dignity and respect, leaving them feeling overall well looked after

Janet Powell, Director of Nursing at Evelina London, said:

These fantastic results reflect the tremendous dedication and compassion of our teams. At Evelina London, we're deeply committed to listening to patients and their families and continuously improving our services to provide the best possible care.

"We have taken on board feedback from the survey about areas we can improve and will be working hard to make meaningful changes. Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in the survey. Your insights are so valuable and will help us make sure the experiences of children and young people and their families are at the heart of everything we do."
