Biography
Alicia Demirjian is a paediatric infectious diseases consultant at Evelina London Children's Hospital, part of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She previously led the hospital's paediatric antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control programmes.
At the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Alicia is a medical epidemiologist leading national surveillance programmes for antimicrobial resistance and prescribing. Her main interests include the use of antimicrobials and outbreak investigation. She has directed several major outbreak responses, including serving as Incident Director for the national COVID-19 response.
Alicia chairs the UK Paediatric Antimicrobial Stewardship Network and is actively involved in antimicrobial resistance policy development through collaborations with the UK Institute of Development Studies and the Japan National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, as part of her Dame Sally Davies Fellowship.
She is also Vice Chair of the evaluation panel for the NHS England and National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) antimicrobial products subscription model, an initiative designed to ensure access to new antibiotics for patients with hard-to-treat infections.
