Your child's appointment with the specialist feeding team

How to get an appointment

Ask a health professional caring for your child to refer them to us.

Changing or cancelling your appointment

If you need to change or cancel your child’s appointment for any reason, please phone us on 07917052438

Please tell us as soon as possible so we can offer the appointment to another patient.

Before your appointment

Please bring:

  • a completed 3-day food diary and questionnaires, if these were sent to you by post
  • your child's red book (personal child health record), if your child is pre-school age
  • a short video of your child eating a typical meal or snack
  • a typical snack or preferred food for your child to eat
  • a list of any medicines and dietary supplements your child is taking
  • a list of any food allergies or intolerances your child has
  • details of any professionals involved in your child's care

During your appointment

During your first appointment, you may see a few health professionals, including:

  • a community paediatrician
  • a dietitian
  • an occupational therapist
  • a clinical psychologist
  • a speech and language therapist

We'll ask questions about your child's past and current feeding. We'll also measure your child's weight and height (known as your child's growth measurements).

We may watch your child eat and drink, and we may play with your child. This will help us understand your child's skills and difficulties.

You can discuss any concerns with us and ask questions.

After your appointment

At the end of the appointment, we may offer you advice and suggest further investigations or intervention.

We'll send you a letter soon after the appointment about our observations, conclusions and advice.

This letter will also be sent to the person who referred your child, their GP and any therapists who are involved with their care. We recommend that you share this letter with your child's nursery or school.
