We are excited to share the drawings of plans for our new hospital building.

We are planning a new hospital building, which will be joined to our existing children’s hospital, as part of exciting plans to grow.

In recent months, we have been presenting our plans for how the outside of our new hospital building will look, to our patients, families, the public and local organisations. Feedback from these sessions and activities has shaped the final designs as we prepare to reach the important milestone of submitting our planning application to Lambeth Council.

Emma Gadsby, head of nursing for the expansion programme, said “We got some really valuable feedback from our patients, families and people in our local areas, ranging from where we locate the main entrance of the building to the importance of sustainability. At Evelina London, we put patients and families at the heart of everything we do and it’s vital that they are involved in shaping our plans. We look forward to working with them on the next stage of our design process.”

The artist’s impressions, which remain subject to change as part of the planning application process, show how the proposed new building will look from Lambeth Palace Road. See all of the designs.

Since our award-winning children’s hospital opened in 2005, the number of children and young people who come to us has more than doubled, and those with complex needs requiring specialist care continues to grow.

The new hospital building will mean we can treat many more children and young people and reduce the time they wait for appointments or treatment. It will allow us to care for the growing number of children with complex conditions and bring more services together in one place.

It will also provide space to expand specialist heart and lung services, as subject to consultation, children’s services will move from the Royal Brompton Hospital to an expanded Evelina London in around five to six years’ time. We are designing spaces in the hospital to be flexible so that we can adapt to the changing needs of our patients and our services in the future.

Our planning application will be live on the Lambeth Council website over the summer months, and we expect the outcome in the autumn.
