Stroke and acquired brain injury recovery clinic

Overview

Our stroke and acquired brain injury recovery clinic is open to children and young people from birth to 16 years old who have had an acquired brain injury. This may be due to events around the time of birth or later in childhood and may include:

  • stroke
  • traumatic brain injury
  • meningitis
  • encephalitis
  • hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy

This clinic is jointly run by occupational therapy and neuropsychology.

We see children soon after their brain injury and then will continue to see them for many years, as we know that needs and priorities change over time.

The focus of the clinic is to address the expressed needs of young people and their parents or carers and help them live as independently as possible. This may be in home, school or leisure activities. We offer specialist consultation, advice and support and we liaise with your local therapy and medical teams when necessary. We can also make onward referrals where required.

Referrals to this service need to be made in writing, by a medical professional (hospital or community consultant, or GP). Children and young people do not need to be patients of Evelina London to be referred, nor under the care of other specialist services at this hospital.
