Haemophilia and haematology referrals

Who can refer

We accept referrals from GPs and from consultants from Evelina London Children’s Hospital and other hospitals.

How to refer

Please send referrals to the email or postal address in the referral contacts box on this page.

We accept referrals for the following conditions and symptoms:

  • bleeding disorders: bruising, bleeding, nosebleeds, menorrhagia (a period that lasts more than 7 days), heavy periods, petechial rash, family history of bleeding disorder, haemophilia, factor deficiency, platelet disorders, von Willebrand Disease
  • thrombotic disorders: deep vein thrombosis (DVT), line related thrombosis, family history of blood clots, thrombophilia, arterial thrombosis
  • general haematology: idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), neutropenia, iron deficiency, lymphadenopathy, red cell membrane disorders including spherocytosis.

Emergency referrals will be prioritised. Please discuss any urgent referrals by contacting the paediatric haematology specialist registrar:

Out of hours, please call the main switchboard on 020 7188 7188 and ask for the on-call doctor for paediatric haemophilia and haematology.

NHS GP referrals

All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). Referrals sent by email or post from NHS GPs will not be processed.
