Who can refer
We accept referrals from GPs via the NHS e-Referral Service only. We also accept referrals from consultants at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and other hospitals.
We occasionally accept referrals from hand therapists.
Emergency trauma patients will come to the service through the accident and emergency department (A&E).
How to refer
All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral service (formerly Choose and Book).
Referrals sent to the nhs.net mailbox or by post from GPs will not be processed.
Tertiary referrals should be sent by post or email using the information in the referrals contacts box on this page.
If you have any questions you can speak to one of our plastic surgery secretaries.
Urgent and two-week referrals
Please send referrals by email and mark as URGENT PAEDIATRIC PLASTIC REFERRAL in the subject heading.
Please call one of the plastic surgery secretaries to advise that you have sent the referral and to check that they have received it.
Referrals can also be sent by post to the address in the referral contacts box on this page.
For referrals from other hospitals, we recommend that the patient is sent back to their GP for referral, unless the referral is for a second opinion or for the same condition.
Patients who need emergency care and require immediate attention should come to the emergency department (A&E) in St Thomas’ Hospital, where they will be assessed and referred for surgery if necessary.
For emergency referrals by GPs and other providers, please telephone the main hospital switchboard on 020 7188 7188 and ask for one of the following:
- plastics senior house officer on call, bleep 0155
- trauma coordinator, bleep 2613
- children's bed manager, bleep 0821.
For emergencies and trauma referrals that do not need immediate attention, please fill in this acute trauma referral form.
