Strike action by junior doctors will take place at our hospital and community sites from 7am on Tuesday 11 April to 7am on Saturday 15 April. We'll contact you if you or your child’s appointment is affected. We apologise for any inconvenience.

A number of transport strikes are due to take place this March. If you or your child has an appointment at one of our hospitals or community centres, please plan ahead and do all you can to attend. If you need to cancel your appointment, please contact your clinical team.

Our speech and language therapists at Evelina London Children’s Hospital assess and manage children with a range of conditions affecting:

  • eating, drinking and swallowing
  • language and language understanding
  • speech and voice
  • augmentative and alternative communication such as signing and using picture symbols
  • social interaction

How we can help

Our acute service works with infants, children and young adults who staying in hospital to support them with communication and feeding difficulties. We also work closely with community teams to make sure children have support in place for when children leave hospital. Sometimes we will continue to work children after they leave hospital, working with the community speech and language therapy team.

Our therapists help children across lots of different services and wards including:

  • ear, nose and throat (ENT)
  • gastroenterology
  • general paediatrics
  • general surgery
  • heart (cardiology)
  • intensive care (PICU)
  • neonatology (NICU)
  • neurology
  • orthopaedics
  • renal
  • respiratory
  • rheumatology

Research

Our team take part in local and national audit and research projects including:

  • blended diets
  • impact of tracheostomy training
  • neonatal feeding and optiflow
  • post-extubation dysphagia screen
