Allergy service

Who we are

We're a centre of excellence, serving our local families in Lambeth and Southwark and providing specialist care to children across the country who have allergies.

Our children's allergy service is an integrated clinical and academic unit based at St Thomas' Hospital.

It's the largest of its kind in Europe and can provide a complete service in the diagnosis and treatment of a whole range of allergies.

What we do

Over the past 40 years, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of children with asthma, eczema, hay-fever and food allergies. We aim to consider all of the child's allergies together, considering their impact and potential treatment on the physical and emotional wellbeing of each child and family.

Through our active research programme and excellent clinical services we're established leaders in the care of children with allergic disease.

Our team can provide families with expert advice, diagnostic tests and practical help in a single visit to our clinic.

We're committed to:

  • providing a first-class clinical service to all the children under our care
  • approaching each child as an individual, drawing on the skills of the whole team to provide holistic care
  • caring for children in a purpose-built, child-friendly environment
  • making sure all our clinical staff are experienced specifically in the care of children
  • organising our services around the needs of children and their families
  • listening to our patients and adapting to their needs
  • improving the treatment options available to our patients through an active research programme
  • fostering a learning environment, supporting the educational development of our own staff as well as other health professionals
