Occupational therapy

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy helps people take part in daily life to improve their health and well-being. We see children from across south London and the south east.

Our occupational therapy service works with children and families to support them to carry out daily tasks such as playing, getting dressed and washing.

Our occupational therapists assess how a child’s physical or psychological condition affects their ability to carry out daily tasks. We work with each child and their family to plan steps forward.

How we can help

We work with children who are staying at our hospital to support them throughout their recovery. We also work closely with community teams to get the right support in place for when your child leaves hospital and returns home.

We also see children who are not staying at our hospital in our outpatient clinics.

Our clinics

We offer specialist outpatient clinics to assess children with complex health needs.

Our team

Our team of highly experienced occupational therapists is recognised regionally and nationally for its expertise particularly in the field of neurodisability.

Community services

If you live in Southwark and Lambeth, please visit our community occupational therapy pages for information about these teams.

Research

Our team is part of a number of national and international research projects, including studies on::

  • childhood stroke
  • rehabilitation
  • complex movement disorders
  • traumatic brain injury
