What do you do, Kiki?

Kiki Tse is a service manager for paediatric cardiology

""November 2024

What is your current role?

As a paediatric cardiology service manager I oversee the day-to-day operations of our heart services, ensuring that both outpatient services and admissions run seamlessly. My focus in mainly on Evelina London Children’s Hospital. However, as our children’s heart service is delivered at both Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital as we have one cardiac surgery waiting list and our surgeons operate on both sites; it’s important we work closely with colleagues on both sites. This helps ensure we carefully plan children’s care to make the best use of our expert teams and facilities, and that every child receives high quality care from our dedicated and expert teams wherever we see and treat each patient and their family.

I take pride in leading the administrative team I manage, empowering them to perform confidently and excel in their roles.

How long have you worked at Evelina London?

What is your favourite part of your role?

One of the moments I cherish most is when our patients scheduled for surgery are able to proceed as planned without unnecessary delays. I understand the immense pressure on NHS services, and it’s our responsibility to schedule effectively to reduce the likelihood of any cancellations.

Every patient on the waiting list matters deeply to us. It brings us joy to be able to support our patients in their journey toward recovery.

Tell us about the award you won last year?

Winning a Love Admin award last year ignited a newfound confidence in me. It reinforced my commitment to being a caring and supportive manager, ensuring my team members feel valued and empowered, so they can thrive and achieve success together.

Why do you think you were nominated for the award?

I believe my nomination reflects my dedication to going the extra mile for patients and the team, embodying compassion and what it takes to be a people manager.

What is one of your proudest moments working at the Trust?

My proudest moment is empowering my team. I have an incredible group of administrators, and working through the challenges we've faced together has been truly rewarding. I’m especially proud of how we have collaborated to incorporate using Epic, the electronic health record system introduced across Guy’s and St Thomas’ in October 2023, into our work.

How important do you think administrative and clerical staff are at Evelina London?

I might be biased but I think administrative and clerical staff are the unsung heroes of NHS operations. We work hard behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. From managing patient records and coordinating appointments to handling communications and supporting healthcare professionals, our contributions are vital. We are committed to ensuring patients have a seamless healthcare journey, and have a positive experience of high-quality care. Our planning and meticulous attention to detail ensures our clinical colleagues can focus on delivering care to patients.
